Dosage forms

Zechstein Magnesium Oil is available commercially in a liquid form as a spray for application to the skin or as a bathing addition in the form of flakes. Magnesium Oil is a saturated 31% magnesium chloride solution.

Zechstein Magnesium Oil

Zechstein Magnesium Oil is available in spray bottles for direct application to the skin. Concentrated Zechstein Magnesium Oil is a saturated 31% magnesium chloride solution, consisting of 31% magnesium chloride and 69% water.

Zechstein Magnesium Oil is also available in larger containers, for example in 0.5 litre or 1 litre bottles as a storage pack or for full baths or foot baths.

Magnesium content of Zechstein Magnesium Oil

Concentrated Zechstein Magnesium Oil is a saturated 31% magnesium chloride solution with a density of 1.3 kg/litre and is thus heavier than water.

1 kg saturated magnesium chloride solution equals 0.77 litres and contains 310 g magnesium chloride.

1 liter contains 1.3 x 310 g = 403 g magnesium chloride.

The molar mass of magnesium chloride is 95.2.
The molar mass of magnesium is 24.3.

1 ml saturated Zechstein magnesium chloride solution therefore contains:

403 : 95.2 x 24.3
= 103 mg pure magnesium

Zechstein Magnesium Gel

Zechstein Magnesium Gel consists of a concentrated magnesium chloride solution and a natural gelling agent (starch). The magnesium chloride concentration is 30%.

Zechstein Magnesium Gel is used for massages. Its unique composition ensures a cleansing and nurturing effect on the skin. At the same time, the absorption of magnesium via the skin is increased by means of the massage.

Zechstein Magnesium Gel is also suitable for the treatment of psoriasis. In this case, the affected areas should be rubbed with the gel and left for at least 30 minutes.

Composition
Water, magnesium chloride (from Lake Zechstein), hydroxypropyl starch phosphate

Application
Apply Zechstein Magnesium Gel and gently massage in for a few minutes. Leave the gel on the skin for at least 15 minutes and then rinse off using warm water.

Note
Do not apply to open wounds or broken skin. Avoid contact with the eyes and mouth area. A slight warm feeling can occur where the gel is applied to a larger area. This is normal, and can be attributed to the effect of the magnesium.

Zechstein Magnesium Flakes

If magnesium oil is heated to over 165 degrees Celsius, it returns to the solid state of magnesium chloride, magnesium chloride hexahydrate (MgCl2 6H2O), also known as bischofite. A special procedure is used to produce flakes from the magnesium oil. These flakes are perfect for a magnesium full bath or foot bath.

Magnesium content of Zechstein Magnesium Flakes
Zechstein Magnesium Flakes have a magnesium chloride content of 47%; the remainder is water. Magnesium chloride is extremely hygroscopic, which means it absorbs atmospheric moisture into its lattice structure. Of all administration forms, Zechstein Magnesium Flakes have the highest magnesium concentration.

1 kg Zechstein Magnesium Flakes contains 470 g magnesium chloride.

The molar mass of magnesium chloride is 95.2.

The molar mass of magnesium is 24.3.

1 kg Zechstein Magnesium Flakes thus provides:
470 : 95.2 x 24.3 = 120 g pure magnesium

1 kg Zechstein Magnesium Flakes thus provides:
 470 : 95.2 x 24.3 = 120 g pure magnesium

Origin

The former Zechstein Sea stretched from Northern England across Germany all the way to Russia. Approximately 250 million years ago it dried up, and the minerals contained therein were deposited in different layers. Today they can be found approximately 1600 to 2000 metres under the earth’s surface, due to its tectonic movement.

In 1982 new technologies enabled this raw material to be extracted as a saturated magnesium chloride solution in Veendam, the Netherlands for the first time. For this, water is pumped into the magnesium chloride layer, which causes the magnesium chloride to be dissolved to a 31% saturated solution, the so-called magnesium oil that is then conveyed to the surface.

As a result of its extraordinary purity, Zechstein Magnesium Oil has been available since 2007 as a ready-for-use solution for health and wellness without furher processing.

Zechstein Magnesium Oil is constantly subjected to chemical analyses. In this manner, the purity and pharmaceutical quality of every batch is documented and guaranteed.
